Museum 3017

Museum 3017 is an experimental imaginary archaeological exhibition from the future where visitors find out where and how Bucharest's residents live in the year 2007 a.D. In the year 3017, a mysterious “time capsule” is found: photographs, interviews with Bucharest people, objects, data, plans, all the results of an anthropological research on Bucharest living typologies in the year 2017. The curators from the year 3017 discover and publish and exhibit not only the results of the research, but also strange concepts like home that they try to explore and explain to the public in the future where people don't live in a very atomized society. The exhibition opened as part of the Museum Night in May 2017, and took place in the former industrial cotton mill on the bank of the Dâmbovița river in Bucharest. It was based on the anthropological research published a year prior by Asociația Vira, and materialized in a series of eight installations to symbolize the eight typologies of living that were studied: socialist apartments, new developments, ghettos, student dorms, gated communities, suburbs, former-nationalized houses and homeless. The very politically charged notion of dwelling and of museum was analyzed in a playful manner throughout the exhibition's itinerary and installations.
